Navigating the Families First Coronavirus Response Act

What a week it has been. I have largely spent my time on the appropriate response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), working with the Greenshades Compliance team to develop a working understanding of the rapidly changing environment and how we can best support our employees, clients, and partners during this difficult time.    

For anyone that knows me, the introduction of a new, regulatory change, especially one with wide reaching employer and employee impact, kept me very busy and added a whole new collection of bookmarks to my internet browser.   

With last week’s passage of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), the government has provided two powerful tools to help employers and employees during this pandemic. The FFCRA has two parts: an expansion to FMLA (ERFMLEA) and a new pool of paid sick leave (ERPDSLA).  Both parts go into effect on April 2nd.  Many employers are scrambling to understand what these changes mean for their business.  

As we started collecting the information necessary to make thoughtful and educated decisions for our business, our team quickly realized that our clients and partners were likely working through similar exercises.  As a compliance first company, we are uniquely equipped to dedicate resources to understanding the impact of the recent COVID-19 response from local, state, and the federal government.
