Client Updates

The Greenshades Deployment Platform is capable of updating client components installed across our client base. When components are first installed, all included component App IDs are entered into the registry. The Updater Service will periodically inspect the registry to determine:

• Which components are installed.
• What version of components are installed.
• Which components are out of date.

When a component is determined to be out-dated (by comparing version numbers), the appropriate update installer is downloaded and executed silently.

Recovery

Since the Updater Service is responsible for updating itself, those components that depend on the Updater Service are responsible for checking on its health periodically and possibly attempting to recover it by restarting or reinstalling it.

If a component other than the Updater Service fails to install or is stopped, the Updater Service is able to detect the problem and will attempt to restart or re-install the failed component.
